People tend to believe the various myths about sleep, but it can have a negative impact on their health.
A third of your life people spend sleeping, so the dismissive attitude can affect your health. However, in a society widely spread a few myths about sleep that people believe. Doctors gathered eight of the most popular myths and disprove them.
Myth # 1. Five hours of sleep enough for health.
Researchers believe that this is one of the most harmful for the population of myths. A five-hour sleep will not lead you to health and heart problems, diabetes and obesity. Adult man health requires a minimum of seven hours of sleep.
Myth # 2. Watch TV is a great way to relax before bed.
TV as the tablet, smartphone and other gadgets is not the best idea before bed. The light emitted from screens, has a bad influence on sleep, which affects health.
Myth # 3. No matter what time of day you sleep.
Whether we like it or not, the natural rhythms of our organisms are tuned to the sunrise and sunset. In the long term, the disruption time of day at which we sleep affects our condition. The disturbance of circadian rhythms increases the risk of developing depression and diabetes. If, for example, for many years working the night shift, it is worth considering what is important to you – career, or health.
Myth # 4. The ability to sleep at any time and in any situation is a sign of healthy sleep.
This is not so. This ability is only an indication that you are not getting enough sleep. A man with a healthy sleep takes a few minutes to sleep. Have you “off” a few seconds in any conditions, then your body lacks rest.
Myth # 5. Just lie down with my eyes closed as beneficial as sleep.
Your body is different functions during sleep and wakefulness. If you just lie with your eyes closed and consider themselves a rest, your body doesn’t think so. Authorities were aware that the brain is not asleep, and therefore operate in the Wake mode. Use as from healthy sleep the body will not do it.
Myth # 6. Alcohol improves sleep.
Alcohol is a poison to the body and better sleep from it you become. Drinking before sleep is not only wrong, but also dangerous for your health.
Myth # 7. The body can get accustomed to less sleep.
Scientists refute this: as we would not like to believe that we can train the body to sleep less, to do this will not work. You can only hurt the health of chronic sleep deprivation.
Myth # 8. Loud snoring is basically harmless.
Loud snoring is harmful – it signals problems with the respiratory tract. First, it affects the quality of sleep, and secondly, can lead to the fact that people just stop breathing in my sleep.
