Scientists from the University of Granada has warned of a health risk to cash cheques. They are found in the composition of thermal paper chemical, can cause disorders of the endocrine system.
This substance called bisphenol A. It can cause a number of hormonal disorders and is associated with an increased risk of cancer, infertility, autism and other diseases.
The experts took samples of receipts from the shops and restaurants in Spain, Brazil and France. If the French checks bisphenol a were kept at approximately half of the sampled instances, in Spain and Brazil a dangerous substance found in 90% of the checks. Substance content exceeds the maximum permissible limits established Evrokomissii, dozens of times.
In addition, some checks were found bisphenol S, which is considered to be safe by the analog bisphenol A, but actually is not and can cause hormonal disturbances.
The authors of the study warn that such checks do not in any case should not be in contact with food, they should not be kept at home. Even a threat to throw cheques along with other paper could be dangerous, but in this case, it becomes unclear how to dispose of them.
