The experiments showed that the constant slight caloric deficit helps the kidneys to stay healthy.
Russian scientists have published a paper which States that the caloric restriction diet has a beneficial effect on the cardiovascular system, and reduces the risk of kidney conditions.
The researchers conducted a series of experiments involving animals that have shown that reducing calorie intake helps protect the kidneys, as it activates the process of purification of the body from the damaged cells.
During one of the experiments, scientists broke the blood flow in young and aged rats. The body of elderly rats coped worse with the consequences, as with age, the recovery process of the kidneys slows down.
When rats cut the ration by 25%, young animals began to recover in approximately two to three times faster than the normal diet. However, on the restoration of older rats, the reduction in caloric intake is not substantially affected.
The researchers noted that the positive effect is most noticeable in rats that have long received less food, and it is associated with the age of the animal. That is, probably, in chronic caloric deficit, the body triggers the internal mechanisms of recovery.
